Obituary

Monroe, NH- Marion Jeanette (Ruby)Hunter, 96, of Harley View Acres, died peacefully on July 16, 2008, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH, with her family by her side. Marion was born in Jersey City, NJ, on January 12, 1912, to Adam J. and Bessie (Trenery) Ruby. She was a graduate of Cliffside Park High School in New Jersey, and later attended secretarial college. She married Kenneth R. Hunter on October 22, 1938 who predeceased her on June 30, 1981. While raising her family, she was employed as a secretary and taught Sunday school. Marion and Ken moved to Newbury, VT, in 1976. In 1979 they returned to New Jersey before eventually settling in Monroe in 1981. Marion was a member and treasurer of the Monroe United Methodist Church and a former member of the First Congregational Church of Newbury. She was a longtime volunteer at the Grafton County Nursing Home where in 2005 she received a Special Achievement Award for 18 years of service. She was a past associate of the Grafton County Home Association, volunteered with the RSVP program and was an active member of the Cottage Hospital Auxiliary. She was a co-founder of the Bone Building Group of Monroe and served as a leader at its weekly exercise sessions. Marion is survived by two sons, Kenneth A. Hunter and wife Barbara of New Durham, NH and Wayne D. Hunter and wife Jeanette of West Berlin, VT; two granddaughters, Nancy Hunter Rogers and husband Gary and their son, seven week old Henry Hunter Rogers of Jericho, VT and Jennifer Hunter of Charlotte, NC. Her brother Elmer J. Ruby also predeceased her. Calling hours will be Monday, July 21, 2008, from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 22, at 11AM at the Monroe Community Church, Monroe, NH, with Rev. Dr. Donald Thomas officiating. Burial at a later date in the Monroe Village Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Community Church, c/o Mr. Winston Currier, 98 Harley View Drive, Monroe, NH 03771 or to the First Congregational Church of Newbury, 4915 Main Street South, Newbury, VT 05051.
