Marjorie B.
Burt
April 4, 2024
Bath NH- Marjorie "Babe" Burbank Burt, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Grafton County Nursing Home with her loving husband Randall by her side.
Marjorie was born on November 7, 1934, in Haverhill, NH. She grew up in Haverhill, NH but spent summers in Ashland, NH. She attended Haverhill Academy.
Babe loved her children immensely, she always enjoyed having her house full of kids. She was very involved with everything the kids were doing, from making umbrella houses, coaching little league in Bath, she made cakes for birthdays- doll cakes, snoopy cakes, along with beautifully decorated cupcakes, & had the best homemade snacks for the kids. She would make popcorn balls for the Halloween season, spent hot summer days at the pond and she never minded having an extra for dinner, Babe just got out another plate to fill with her delicious homemade meals. There was no kindergarten when her daughter was of the age to go and got permission to teach a group of delightful little girls their ABC's and numbers. She drove her daughter and a friend all the way to Worchester, MA to see David Cassidy. Never missing an episode of Tony Orlando with her daughter. She and her sister always took their children to Old Orchard Beach, ME, but one year they decided to take them to camp on Nash Stream and left early due to a raccoon tearing through the screen door during the night.
She married Randall Burt on May 4th, 1973, and they spent over 50 years together.
She will be remembered for being kind, courteous, and helpful. She loved people and what she could do for them. She loved her grandchildren very much and would talk on the phone with them often or would be with them whenever she could, for any reason and they adored her, one even writing an essay dedicated to their Gram. She was extremely proud of her son-in-law's 30 year service to our country, and her grandson's service.
Marjorie knew how to work and was a hard worker. She worked at the Lisbon Shoe as a stitcher for many years and at the Cormier's in North Haverhill before retiring. She helped Randall with the rubbish route, making maple syrup, and their Rainbows End Tree Farm, making wreaths and her wonderful fudge that she would make, and has left the task up to Randall now. Marjorie was always so proud that they had gone to Concord to receive from the governor, executive council, and fellow citizens, a certificate for winning the annual Christmas tree competition at the Hopkinton Fair and donating a 10-foot Fraser Fir from their tree farm to be used for their holiday decorating at the state house.
When she had free time, she enjoyed watching the birds, deer in the field, fish in her pond, going in the boat to cast a line with Randall, hosting holiday parties, reading a good book, and swapping bookmarks with her daughter, and was a life member of the Ammonoosuc Fish and Game Club. She also collected teddy bears and souvenir spoons from her many travels. She loved her brother-in-law, Russell & his family for all they did for her and the barbecues at Rusty's, while at the nursing home they brought Abigail for Marjorie's birthday. She enjoyed celebrating every St.Patrick's Day with her nephew, Robert Duval. He loved her very much. Marjorie also would tend to her flower and vegetable gardens, she would then take her harvest and turn it into her memorable home-made pickles, and relish. Randall will especially miss her homemade rolls.
Marjorie was a traveler, going on various trips with Randall to Pittsburg, Novia Scotia, all around down south, out to Colorado. Marjorie and the other grandmother had traveled to Baumholder, Germany for the birth of their grandson, Nicholas, navigating their way through Frankfurt Germany's airport, taking the train to Baumholder and while waiting for the arrival of Nicholas, she got to visit Paris.
She has left us, taking Randall's devoted love for her along with all the family & friends' love. Including her Mary, a little white lamb that was given to her by Gary & Jody and was by her side every night at the Nursing Home, it gave her great comfort. She loved you both Gary & Jody.
Marjorie is predeceased by her father, George O'Haire; mother, Marjorie Burbank; a brother, Robert Burbank; a sister, Gertrude Duval Marsh; a special nephew, Richard Burbank; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Lou Burbank; and a granddaughter, Wendy Cozzens. And lots of loving pets, there was always one in the house, Marjorie was a grandmother to many special pets as well. Marjorie's best dog was Charlie, a big, gorgeous German Sheperd who was the biggest baby. He had a habit of always acting up when she was on the phone and tried to sit in her lap buy placing his bottom on a footstool and paws in her lap.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Randall Burt; a daughter Robin J. Boutin; a nephew, Stephen A. Burbank; grandchildren, Heidi Burbank, Nicholas Boutin, Brent Burbank; great grandchildren, Addison Cozzens, Isabella Cozzens, Adam Burbank, David Burbank, Ayla Burbank, Tyler Burbank, & Sunny Boutin; and lots of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The love Randall and Marjorie shared was unmatched, they had spent over 50 years enjoying each other's company. Randall knew she loved him very much and the Saturday prior to her passing, he went to see her, as he did often, saying "Good morning sweetheart" like he had done many times before and Marjorie looked up at Randall and very clearly responded with "I love you."
Per Marjorie's wishes there will be no calling hours, but a burial will be held for any and all family and friends on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 10 AM at The Ladd Street Cemetery with Melissa Gould as celebrant.
