Obituary

Newbury, VT Marjorie Lois Shane, 59, died June 11, 2012, at her home following a period of declining health. Marjorie was born in Weymouth, MA, February 25, 1953, daughter of William E. and Eleanor (Enos) Shane. She graduated from Hingham, MA High School and the University of Massachusetts Boston. Marjorie continued to live in Cambridge, MA for a number of years, and has many friends in the New England area. She moved to Vermont in 1992, and has served as the Librarian at the Tenney Memorial Library in Newbury, VT and also became the librarian at the Groton Public Library in Groton, VT in 2006. She had a love of reading and books that she enjoyed sharing with others, especially the children that would visit the libraries. She held book discussion groups and stitchery groups at both libraries and took books to area seniors weekly. She had a fierce love of community and actively took part in area events and concerts. Most recently, she served on the boards of The Mustard Seed at the Newbury Congregational Church, The Oxbow Senior Independence Program in Newbury and as the secretary of the Northeast Regional Administrator Standards Board. Her chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter balls were famous and especially sought after. Her infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed. Marjorie attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bradford, VT. She enjoyed being a lector, and serving as a Eucharistic and Music Minister in the various churches she has attended. Survivors include her mother: Eleanor Shane of Viborg, SD, four sisters: Nancy Severson of Viborg, SD, Lu-Ann (Chris) Pike of Rushville, MO, Karen (Allen) Moon of Dexter, IA, and Catherine (LyDell) Peterson of Viborg, SD, two brothers: Michael (Lindy) Shane of El Paso, TX, and Patrick Shane of Laughlin, NV, along with several nieces and nephews. There are also many friends that have been so close, special mention to Timm and Mary Lou Judas and their children Hannah and Max. Marjorie loved her life in Vermont, and shared this thought with many friends and family over the years. Marjorie was predeceased by her father William, a sister Lori Ross and a niece, Rachael Whaley. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either the Tenney Memorial Library in Newbury, Vermont, or the Groton Public Library in Groton, Vermont. A Mass of Christian burial will be at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Bradford, VT on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 12:00 pm with burial in St. Paul s Cemetery Hingham, MA on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 1 PM.
