Obituary

Mark Alfred "Stuart" O'Brien, 93, of Peacham passed away October 4, 2017 at his home. Born April 11, 1924 in Orange, New Jersey, Stuart was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Susan Norcross O'Brien, in July 2017. He is survived by five children: Mark Stuart O'Brien and wife Janet of Danville, Daniel Lawrence O'Brien of Peacham, Catherine O'Brien Roy and husband Bruce of West Barnet, Shane Slaight O'Brien and wife Judy of Drumore, PA, and Keith Stuart O"Brien and wife Kippy of Crimora, VA, twenty grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces including special niece Lara O'Brien Underwood of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

O'Brien served in the United States Air Force from 1943 to 1946 in the skies over Europe as a radio operator in the &th Troop Carrier Squadron of the 12th Air Force. Following the end of World War II, he remained in the Air Force Reserve with the rank of major, until 1972.

After retiring from the business world where he worked as a self employed distributor od school furniture until 1989, Stuart vigorously pursued a series of interests with characteristic gusto. At age 68, he became the oldest graduate of the rigorous three year violin making program at the North Bennett School in Boston.

There were other interests in the wings however, and by the time he had reached his seventies, Stuart had discovered a latent talent and passion: writing, This discovery eventually culminated in the publishing of his WW II novel, "Wildwood" . This remarkable accomplishment is both a tribute to a childhood friend killed in action and part autobiography. The publishing of "Wildwood" at 91 was a crowning achievement for O'Brien and a source of pride for him and his family.

Stuart O"Brien was a "Mover and a shaker" who never let "the grass grow under his feet" and will be missed by his family and fiends. There will not be a public service held. Written condolence may be mailed to: O'Brien Family, 171 Way Road, Barnet, VT 05821
