Obituary

Piermont, NH Martha Jane Janie Sayers, 74, of Piermont, NH, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the home of her sister-in-law, Linda Goodrich, in Lyme, NH, surrounded by family and close friends. Born on September 25, 1933, in Woodsville, NH, she was the daughter of Leroy and Martha (Kimball) Nelson. She graduated from Woodsville High School and attended Lyndon Teacher s College. Martha Jane was married to Scott Sayers of South Ryegate, VT, on August 21, 1955, and had two children. Martha Jane was a mother, housewife, and worked side by side with her husband on their dairy farm in Piermont until they retired several years ago. She enjoyed being with her family and friends. Martha s favorite things to do were baking pies, making recyle crafts for gifts, gardening and playing cards. Martha was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Louise Elder and Della Heywood, and her brother Harland Nelson. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Scott Sayers of Piermont, NH; one daughter, Cindy Watrous and her husband George of Orwell, VT; a son Larry Sayers of Bellows Falls, VT; and three grandchildren, Jacob Watrous and his wife Heather, and Lindsey and Megan Watrous. She is also survived by a sister, Priscilla Melahn and her husband Jack of Bradford, VT; as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, great nieces and nephews, and close special friends David and Rachael Yaeger and their five children Karl, Christopher, Heidi, Veronica, and Gloria. A calling hour will be on Friday, May 2, from 6-7 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, at 10 AM at the Piermont Congregational Church, Piermont, NH with Mr. Lyman Robie and Rev. Dr. Catherine Cook, officiating. Interment will take place at the South Lawn Cemetery in Piermont following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701, or to the charity of one s choice.
