Obituary

Martin Bartlett Welch passed away on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025, at Cheshire Medical Center, following years of declining health. He was born April 13th, 1960, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont to Kendall and Shirley (Barnes) Welch. The youngest of five, Martin was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother Erwin. Left behind to carry on his memory are his children, Jennifer and Billy White of Pike, NH, and Bryan Welch and Ashley of Granville, NY, grandchildren Dylan, Olivia, and Sailor, as well as his loving and devoted cat Boots. Martin is also survived by his siblings, Winifred and Jim Hill of Haverhill, NH, Kendall Welch of Newbury, VT and Alice Welch of Bath, NH, along with many nieces and nephews.

Martin grew up in Newbury, VT on his parent's dairy farm, his youth was spent tending to the many farm chores and raising cain, he enjoyed hard work, fast cars, and small-town life. Following a fire at the farm, Martin joined the Newbury Fire Department, where he served for many years. Martin had many employers over the years including Smith's Farm, Renfrew Building, Newman's Lumber, Davidson Lumber, Vermont Home Specialties and Field and Sons. He was proud of his work, and it showed. In keeping the farm spirit alive, Martin liked to always keep busy, he enjoyed gardening, baking, hunting, fishing, sugaring, haying, all things politics, and Sunday dinners with family.

Martin may have been known by some as a man of few words and yet to others a man of many. When he was working, he was patient and happy to teach to a point yet easily frustrated and liked things just so. He was sarcastic and loved to joke. He had an opinion about almost everything and was never afraid to let you know it. His mind was always working, a carpenter by trade, he would wake up in the middle of the night thinking of the next steps or the next big project. A man that did not often say, "I love you," he showed his love by offering a hand, a tool or advice, whether solicited or not.

Martin will be missed by all that he has left behind, but the many memories and the knowledge that he has returned home, and his suffering is over will comfort us all. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

The family would like to extend extreme gratitude to all the ICU staff at Cheshire Medical Center whose kindness, care, and understanding not only with Martin, but to the entire family was far above and beyond during his final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Second Chance Animal Rescue at 1517 Meadow Street, Littleton, NH 03561.

The family will be hosting a celebration of life at the home of Jennifer and Bill at 1315 Mount Moosilauke Hwy., Pike NH 03780 on Saturday, May 24th, 2025, at 1 PM.
