Obituary

Groton, VT Mary Victoria Hatch, 93, was born in a humble home in West Groton, VT on May 13, 1914, the sixth of eight children born to Ellery C. and Effie (Crouse) Page. She passed away March 23, 2008 at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH, after a month long illness. At 20 years of age, she married John F. Hatch, Sr. of Groton. They had two sons and three daughters. She is predeceased by her husband John F. Hatch and three children: Donald L. Hatch, Lorrey K. Hatch, and Janice Hatch-Mills, also a grandson, Tim K. Sanville, and a great-grandson, Dana L. Pratt. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Hatch-Ruiter of Groton, and Dorothy Hatch Hood of Lebanon, NH. Mary had 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Of Mary s siblings, only her dear sister Pearlene Eastman survive her. Mary worked hard all of her life to provide for her family. In the early years she was station agent at the Groton Railroad Station, she sold cards, Avon, and hosted Better Homes Clubs. She walked from one end of Groton to the other for she had no other transportation. When her children were older, she worked out of town, at the Capacitor Plant in Barre, VT, the shoe shop in Woodsville, NH and the shoe shop in Lisbon, NH. She attended the Groton United Methodist Church. Mary was hard working, generous, compassionate, loving and honest, and she encouraged this in her children and grandchildren. They were all very dear to her. Many in Groton who knew Mary considered her a highly regarded fixture, for she had lived at the Station Flat for 74 years. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, March 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be on Thursday, March 27, at 1 PM at the Ricker Funeral Home, with Rev. Candice Ricker of the Groton United Methodist Church, officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Groton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 157, Groton, VT, 05046. Burial will be in the spring at the Groton Village Cemetery.
