Obituary

Bradford, VT Mary M. Munn, 62, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2011 with her family and loved ones by her side. Mary was born in Haverhill, NH, September 13, 1948, the daughter of Bryce Metcalf and Natalie (Wright) Allen. She grew up on a dairy farm on Taplin Hill in East Corinth, VT where her love and caring for animals began. Mary graduated from Bradford Academy, class of 1966, and was a graduate of Champlain College in Burlington, VT. She worked for the Vermont Department of Health in White River Junction, and was a VT State Employee for over 30 years. What Mary liked most was helping people. She especially enjoyed working with the WIC program, and a highlight for her was meeting all the new babies she could hold and adore. She was a huge animal lover and took in many dogs and cats that needed homes over the years. Mary saw beauty in all different types of animals and believed that each one had their own unique personality, sense of humor, and story to tell. She loved to cook and host gatherings for family and friends. Mary was famous for having too much food for the number of people she was expecting, and what people didn't eat, she always sent home with them, it was another example of her generous nature. Mary was a beautiful, loving, caring, nurturing and fun mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, and took advantage of every opportunity to give. Mary loved giving gifts to her family. She couldn't help but give Birthday and Christmas presents early and then gave more gifts on the actual day of celebration. Mary loved her girlfriends, who were a great source of fun, laughter, support, and strength. She loved to sit out on her sunny deck among her flowers and talk, reminisce, and watch the dogs play. Mary took great pride in her surroundings, and her home truly was where her heart was for almost 40 years. She truly inspired those who knew her, especially the last two years, to stay positive, be brave, and always take the time to make yourself and others laugh. Mary had an incredible love for life, tenacity, and wry sense of humor, she will be greatly missed. For all who had the privilege of knowing her, her spirit will be alive. Survivors include her parents, Natalie (Wright) Allen and husband Chester Allen of West Topsham; Bryce Metcalf of Bradford; her daughter, Liz (Munn) Davis and husband Glenn of Simsbury, CT and their children Brady and Jackson; her son, Matthew Munn and Janice Neil and family of Topsham, VT; her longtime companion, Nelson Lavelle of Bradford; her two sisters, Cindy Spellane and husband John of Holden, MA and Becky Hayward and Bruce Millette of Fairlee, VT; two brothers, Bryce Metcalf of Blaine, WA and Billy Metcalf of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Calling hours will be Friday, April 15th from 6 to8 PM, at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A celebration of Mary s life is being planned for later in June and the date and time of service will be announced at that time.
