Obituary

East Ryegate, VT – Merton W. White, 88, of Guthrie Road, died on Friday, April 4, 2014 at his home.

He was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on May 18, 1925, a son of Howard M. and Violet (Guthrie) White. He graduated from McIndoe Falls Academy in 1943 and went on to serve in the US Navy. On June 16, 1946, he married Alice Annie White from Augusta, ME.

Mert lived most of his adult life in Maine where he worked for Statler Tissue (formerly Hudson Pulp and Paper) for over thirty years, retiring in 1987. He and Alice moved to Ryegate in 1987 from Manchester, ME.

Mert was a member of the Bethlehem Lodge # 0035 in Augusta, ME. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and four wheeler, water skiing, and woodworking. Mert and Alice had a shared loved of working with stained glass. They always enjoyed the company of their many good friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Alice Annie White on October 27, 2008 and a brother Paul A. White.

Survivors include his daughter, Terry Baker and husband Robert of East Ryegate; a granddaughter, Lori Baker and partner Robert Field of Manchester, ME; and three nephews, Gary White of Monroe, NH, Danny White of Sheffield, VT and Randy White of East Ryegate.

At Merton's request there will be no calling hours or public services.
