Obituary

Barnet, VT- Merwyn Edmund Pearl, 87, formerly of Pearlmont Road, died on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center in St. Johnsbury following a period of failing health. Merwyn was born in St. Johnsbury on February 17, 1927, to Glen William and Mildred (Edmunds) Pearl. He was a graduate of McIndoe Falls Academy, Class of 1945. On December 4, 1954 he married Eva Lackie. Merwyn owned and operated Pearlmont Farm, a registered Jersey farm and was a producer of maple syrup. The farm operates today under the direction of his eldest son William. Merwyn was active in many farm agencies. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and worked for the American Soil Conservation Service. He was a member of the county committee of the FHA and DHIA and of the American Jersey Cattle Association. In 1976, he received the Caledonia Natural Resources Conservation District Award. Together with Eva, they were named the Vermont Jersey Breeders of the Year by the Vermont Jersey Breeders Association in 1991. Merwyn was also an incorporator of the Wells River Savings Bank since 1963. He has been a member of the McIndoe Falls Cemetery Association for over twenty years. Merwyn enjoyed playing bingo and cards and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva Lackie Pearl on September 22, 2010. He is survived by two daughters, Elouise Pearl of Barnet and Jane Burrill and husband Rodney of Albany, NH; two sons, William Pearl and wife Gwen and Paul Pearl, both of Barnet; three grandchildren, Christopher Pearl, Daniel Pearl and wife Leah, and Mallory Pearl; five great grandchildren, Alexander, Liam, Mackenzie, Adelaide, and Jack; two step grandchildren, Tiffany Burroughs and Timothy Burroughs and wife Danielle and their children Preston and Cole; a brother, Russell Pearl of McIndoe Falls, VT; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 13th from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 14th at 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in the McIndoe Falls Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
