Michael A. Emerson
March 19,1963 – May 15,2022
Mike was an amazing soul, to know him was to love him. His presence was always known and felt by those around him. If you knew Mike, then you truly knew what love felt like. He lived life simply, and happily. He cared deeply for his family and friends. He would give you the shirt off his back, even if he didn't have another to replace it.
He was raised in Topsham, VT by his parents Ralph and Martha (Hodge) Emerson, along with his three brothers Mark, Melvin, and Martin Emerson. Mike attended Oxbow High school and graduated with the class of 1981.
Mike married Janice (King) Neil in February 1985. Together, they had two children: Carrie-Ann and Chad Emerson. Though Mike and Janice eventually went their separate ways, they raised their children together, and held many family gatherings with one another while remaining friends.
Mike had many hobbies and interests; Hunting, fishing, dirt bikes, bonfires, and "Hell Raising!" He especially enjoyed to barbeque, and brought his home-made smoker far and wide, preparing many a tasty meal for his friends, family, and strangers alike. (His Lolli pop chicken was AMAZING! He also created the best dry rubs you've ever tasted!)
He was A man of many jobs, but had worked the last thirteen years for Fogg's Hardware in Fairlee, VT. Most often you could find him with his children and grandchildren. They were the light of his life, and he adored each and every one of them! They brought a twinkle to his eye and a smile to his heart. He spent much time with each one, creating mischief, and teaching them that the simple things in life are what mattered most and what makes us truly happy.
Annually, Mike attended the Jerry Jam Music Festival in Bath, NH, with his smoker in tow, tie dye shirt, and dancing shoes on. He was known by so many who attended, spreading laughter and joy throughout the festival. He barbequed phenomenal meals for anyone who wanted a seat at his table.
Mike was truly one of a kind, so full of all the good stuff. He loved deeply, laughed loudly, danced wildly, and had a way of making everyone feel at home, regardless of where they were.
Mike was predeceased by his father, Ralph on July 9,1999.
He is survived by his mother; Martha Emerson of Topsham, VT; His daughter Carrie-Ann Emerson and fiancé Charlie Peterson of Corinth, VT; His son Chad Emerson and wife Lynn of Topsham, VT; His daughters by choice; Jessica Douglas of Fairlee, VT; Catherine Sturgeon and husband Michael of Orange, VT; Kaysea Byam and husband Tyler of Topsham, VT; Melanie Neil of Topsham, VT; Three brothers Mark Emerson of Newark, VT and daughter Andrea Clark; Melvin Emerson and wife Amy of Orford, NH as well as their daughter Melanie and son Samuel; Martin Emerson of Bradford, VT and daughter Zoa; His ten grandchildren Charlie, Myles, Kolby, Kyler, Lyric, Briar, Josh, Julian, Daxton, and Bowen.
He leaves behind many other family members and so many very close friends whom he considered family.
Mike's Graveside service will be held on July 2, 2022, at 11 AM at the new cemetery in Topsham, VT. Located on Welch Road.
A Celebration of life will be immediately followed at the East Corinth Ball Field. Please feel free to bring your dish of choice.
