Obituary

Pike, NH – Michael Raymond Penkert (Bullit), 76, loving husband, son, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Michael was born on May 3, 1947, in San Diego, CA, to Ray and Jeanette Penkert.

Michael had a passion for cycling all through his life, he did a lot of competing during his teenage years and ended up qualifying for the Olympic trials in New York in 1964. Mike did not make it to the Olympics, but it was a dream come true to have made it to the Olympic trials. He continued riding his bike until a year before he passed away.

Michael graduated from Grossmont High School in 1965, after which he traveled through Europe for a year. He went into the Army for a short period of time and was honorably discharged when the Vietnam war ended. He spent most of his life in the field of education, earning degrees from numerous colleges. He continued his education throughout his life and settled in the field of counseling psychology. In 2006 he became a Clinical Mental Health Counselor.

Michael enjoyed being outdoors, he found joy in the simple things like biking, hiking and above all he enjoyed going on long walks. He took great joy in going for ice cream (he loved ice cream) and listening to music, especially his favorite singer/song writer, Bob Dylan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending events that his grandchildren were in. He was known to his grandchildren as Papa, and he loved them very much.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Jeanette and his brother Mark Penkert. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Penkert, daughters, Heather Boutin and husband Adam of Pike, NH, Jennifer Kingsbury and husband Willy of Topsham, VT and Patricia DeGoosh and husband Bradley of Bradford, VT. Seven grandchildren, Lauren and Chase Gandin, Brody and Ava Kingsbury and Emma, Lillian and Keyes DeGoosh. Two nieces Jaylie Casey of CA and Eva Shaw of OR.

A celebration of life will be held sometime this summer.
