Swiftwater, NH- Muriel Marion Reed, 86, of Cemetery Road, died on Monday, April 27, 2015, at her home. Muriel was born in Haverhill, MA, on April 8, 1929, to John Freeman and Marion (Maddox) Hackett. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School in Haverhill, MA and then graduated from the nursing program at Wellesley Hospital in Newton, MA. She married Roy Ferguson Reed on January 27, 1950. Muriel worked as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Malden Hospital, at Medford Pediatrics, and in Lawrence Memorial Hospital, all in Massachusetts. Following their retirement in 1987, she and Roy moved from Medford, MA to Swiftwater. They attended many square dances together. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting in acrylics, quilting, flower gardening, and mowing her lawn. She loved being outdoors, whether she was camping, hiking, or skiing. Muriel attended the Bath Congregational Church. At the Horse Meadow Senior Center, she enjoyed sharing breakfasts with friends and painting classes. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Roy F. Reed on November 3, 2012; a son, Royal Ferguson "Chip" Reed on May 22, 2013; and a grandson, Ian Reed on September 3, 2000. Muriel is survived by two children, Lynne Reed of St. Augustine, FL and Robert Reed and wife Debi of Edgewater, FL; six grandchildren, Vincent, Robert, Evan, Erika, Heather, and Lauren; seven great grandchildren, Summer, Susannah, Jocalyn, Robert, Jordan, Ethan, and Ian; a sister, Nancy White of Edgewater, FL; two brothers, Robert Hackett of Haverhill, MA and Raymond Hackett of Plaistow, NH; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Friday, May 1, from 11 AM to 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH with a graveside service immediately following at 1:30 PM at the Swiftwater Cemetery, Bath, NH with Rev. Lyn Winter, officiating.
