Newark, VT Nancy Watchorn Barbour, 77, died on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. She was born in Tuxedo, NY, March 27, 1935, the daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth (Balfour) Watchorn. Nancy graduated from Boonton New Jersey High School and Katharine Gibbs School in New York. She worked in New York City then followed her parents to Vermont. She worked at the Green Mountain Inn where she met her future husband, William Barbour to whom she was married on October 31, 1959. They lived in Stowe, VT and later moved to Middlesex, VT. She worked for many years for the State of Vermont in the abandoned properties division and was the secretary for the Vermont State Treasurer, and Financial Officer for the Vermont Community Action Program. Later, Nancy became the financial officer and partner for Barre Army-Navy Store and continued to keep the store s books until 2010. Nancy was devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She enjoyed trips to North Carolina and Virginia where she loved to listen to Blue Grass Music. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, water color painting, and antique hunting. She spent endless hours with her grandchildren on the front porch of their Newark home. Nancy loved cooking holiday meals and spending time with her family in the most beautiful place in the world, Newark, VT. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, William Barbour of Newark, VT; one daughter, Penny Barbour-Jones and husband Larry Jones of Moretown, VT; two sons, William A. Barbour and wife Lori Werdenschlag of Barnet, VT and Steven Barbour and wife Sherrie of Barre, VT; two grandchildren, Hayden Jones and Jordan Barbour; and a sister, Elizabeth Fergerson and husband Ian of Boulder, CO. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Nancy s life will be on Saturday, June 23 at 11 AM at their home in Newark, VT.
