East Haverhill, NH - Norman George Bigelow, Sr, 71, died Sunday, August 16, 2015, at his home following a brief illness. He was born on August 12, 1944, a son of Lawrence and Dorothy (Warner) Bigelow. Norman moved to East Haverhill from Fitchburg, MA in 2003. He was a renowned escape artist performing in many venues, such as fairs, nightclubs, and college settings. He popularized the escape performance known as full view during the 1970's. His signature escape, "The Doors of Death", inspired many escape artists to adopt this style of performance in their own shows. He retired from performing in 1999. Norman is survived by his wife Janet, to whom he married on September 14, 1986, two children and two step children, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a sister, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter and two brothers. In keeping with Norman's wishes, there will be no public services observed.
