East Ryegate, VT- Norman Charles Chaffee, 80, of Davenella Drive, died on Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH. Norman was born in Hartford, CT, on November 4, 1929, to Charles Edward and Janet (Bennett) Chaffee. He served in the US Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict. For 28 years Norman was employed in Nashville, TN, for various trucking outfits as a long-haul trucker. He later worked as a taxi driver in Nashville. Norman lived in Greenbrier, TN for several years and returned to Vermont in 2005 after his marriage to Madeline. He was a life member of the VFW Post #1038 of Lyndonville, VT, the Ross-Wood Post #20 of the American Legion of Woodsville, NH, and the Korean War Military Association. He was also active in the Civil Air Patrol. Norman was a ham radio operator and belonged to the ARRL, the National Association for Amateur Radio. He was predeceased by his brothers Carlos, Neil, and Barry, and a sister Velma. He is survived by his wife Madeline Chase Chaffee of East Ryegate; three daughters, Linda, Bonnie, and Kathy all of Tennessee; three sons, Lawrence, Barry, and Michael, also of Tennessee; two daughters-in-law, Jane and Susan; and two sisters, Linda of Colorado and Jeannette of Pennsylvania. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT, on May 11, 2010 at 1PM, with Chaplain Larry King of VFW Post # 1038 of Lyndonville, VT officiating. The Post will also be providing the colors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Norman s name may be made to the Trust for the National Mall/Korean War Memorial PO Box 96475, Washington, DC 20090-6475.
