Ryegate, VT- Pamela Jean Peterson, 61, of Ryegate Road, died on March 28, 2008, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH, after a long illness. Pam was born on July 25, 1946, in St. Johnsbury, VT, to Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth Peggy (Welch) Smith. She was a graduate of Groton High School and Champlain College. She married Gordon W. Peterson in 1966. After establishing the Dawn Till Dusk Farm with her husband, Pam went on to become a rural letter carrier for the Groton Post Office and was a member of the QWL. She had been active in her youth as a member of the 4-H and continued to love the outdoors, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, enjoying nature, birds, skiing, kayaking, doing puzzles and reading, attending auctions, antiquing, and flea marketing. She attended the Groton United Methodist Church and served as a lister for the Town of Ryegate for several years. She was predeceased by her mother, Peggy Smith in 2003. She is survived by her husband, Gordon W. Peterson of Ryegate; their daughter, Tina Peterson and fiance Jared of Lyme, NH; her father Andrew J. Smith of Groton, VT; two sisters, Barbara Frost and husband Earl of Monroe, NH, and Brenda Powers and husband Craig of Groton; her brother, Brent Smith and wife Pam of Groton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Virginia and Donald Phelps of North Haverhill, NH; and brother-in-law Ronald Peterson of Groton. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, from 6:30-8:30 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 2, at 11:00 AM at the Groton United Methodist Church, Scott Highway, Groton, VT with Pastor Candace Ricker officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Pinehurst Cemetery.
