North Monroe, NH- Pauline Adeline Cheney, 99, passed away on Sunday, September 24th, 2023, at the Lafayette Nursing Home.
She was born on June 25th, 1924, at her family home to Raymond M. and Julia E. (Head) Lang. She was the eldest of her six siblings.
She graduated from McIndoe Falls Academy, Class of 1942.
Her first job was a stitcher for Glovers in St. Johnsbury, then throughout the years she had works for Pete & Gerry's as an egg packer in Monroe and at the Monroe Country store. She would independently sell and deliver Avon products.
If she was not working, you could find her either tending to her vegetable garden, canning her bounty to preserve for the cold months, or baking which brought her joy. She was known for making beautiful, delicious wedding cakes for many, many couples to enjoy. Some even made the journey to Connecticut for their family's weddings. She always made the time to volunteer at the West Barnet Senior Center and at the Grafton County Nursing Home.
There was no doubting her support for the UCONN women's basketball team, Celtics and Red Sox. She never missed a game on the television.
She is predeceased by her parents, Raymond M. Lang and Julia E. Lang; an infant son, Elmer Merchand Jr; her first husband, Elmer Merchand on January 7th, 1975; her second husband Irvin Cheney on April 1st, 1998; two brothers, Irvin Lang & Calvin Lang; an infant sister, Phyllis Lang; and a sister, Gloria Paquette.
She is survived by two sons; Raymond M. Merchand and wife Elaine of North Monroe, NH, Kieth E. Merchand and wife Delta of North Monroe, NH; two grandchildren, Donald Merchand and wife Brenda, and Annette Page and husband Dean; two great grandchildren, Erin and Adam; two sisters Lillian Hampson, and Evelyn Lebrun; a sister-in-law, Nancy; many loving stepchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There will be a graveside service on October 7th at 10 AM at the North Monroe Cemetery with Melissa Gould as celebrant.
