North Haverhill, NH Pauline (Smith) Johnson, 95, died March 3, 2009 at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. She was born in East Haverhill, NH on May 11, 1913, a daughter of Everett H. and Mamie (Elliott) Smith. Polly was a registered nurse and for several years worked at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, NH, and Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, where she served as the Director of Nursing. She was a 1st Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps, from April 9, 1945 until her discharge on October 9, 1947, serving at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco. She also did private duty nursing in Warren, NH. Polly was a member of the North Haverhill United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married Elmore P. Johnson on October 18, 1986, and he predeceased her on March 16, 2006. She was also predeceased by a sister Natalie Smith, and two brothers Neil and Laurence Hap Smith. Survivors include a brother Erville H. Smith of Concord, NH; three step children Patricia L. Chase, Barbara J. MacNamee, and Peter E. Johnson, all of Lebanon, NH; several grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Thursday, May 28, at 1 PM in the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH, with Pastor Susan Ellery of the North Haverhill United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Horsemeadow Cemetery, North Haverhill. Memorial contributions can be made to Cottage Hospital, P.O.
