Obituary

Woodsville, NH – Pearle Marden Goodwin, 94, a former longtime South Ryegate, VT, and Woodsville resident, died Sunday, December 30, 2018, at her home in Woodsville.

She was born in North Thetford, VT, June 7, 1924, a daughter of Joseph William and Mary Edith (Hood) Young.

A graduate of Groton High School in 1942, she was attending the School of Practical Art in Boston when she married Sgt. Warren C. Goodwin, who was serving in the US Army Medical Corps, on March 8, 1943.  They made their home and raised their family in South Ryegate for over 41 years until his death on July 23, 1987.

Pearle was a freelance writer of articles for numerous publications, including Woman's Day and Good Housekeeping from 1952 to 1999. She also worked at the former Hovey's Shops.   Following her move to Woodsville, she renewed her interest in oil painting and joined with others to form a hobby workshop for artists.  Along with cultivating a lovely flower garden, she specifically raised gladiolus and sold them commercially.  She was also an avid reader.  Pearle will be fondly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, talented gardener, writer, artist, crocheter, and loyal friend.

She is survived by two sons, Gary W. Goodwin of Woodsville and Stuart W. Goodwin of South Ryegate; three grandchildren, Valerie J. Joda, Katrina L. Goodwin Whalen, and Benjamin P. Goodwin; along with great grandchildren, Jadyn Marie Goodwin, Noah J. Bogie, Warren P. Goodwin, and step great granddaughter, Genevieve Dupont; along with nieces and nephews, and by her loving caregiver Claire Goodwin.

Private burial services will be held at Pinehurst Cemetery, South Ryegate, in the spring.
