Peggy
Burgin
January 12, 2024
Groton, VT – Peggy Ann Burgin, 77, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Grafton County Nursing Home. Peggy was born on April 6, 1946, in Montpelier, VT.
Peggy spent most of her life in Groton, though for the better part of the first 19 years of life she lived in Austin, Texas, graduating from Johnston High School. She returned to Vermont in 1965. Peggy was a member of the Groton United Methodist Church, the IONA chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, in Bradford, VT, and most recently was a trustee of the Groton Free Public Library, before her health forced her to slow down.
Peggy was predeceased by her father, Ray Burgin, her mother, Sadie Burgin-Bruleigh, her stepfather, Robert Bruleigh Sr, and her brother, Parker Burgin. She will be remembered by her sister-in-law, Dinah Burgin of New Braunfels, TX; her two stepbrothers, Robert H. "Tiger" Bruleigh, Jr. of Concord, NH, and Charles "Chub" Bruleigh and wife Brenda, of Groton, VT; a sister Lynne Downs, of South Portland, ME; an aunt, many caring nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family, and friends who have known her over the years.
Peggy will be remembered for her strong faith in God. She knew her Bible well and loved singing the old hymns and especially the doxology. Her journey of faith included her Walk to Emmaus. Peggy had a keen and witty sense of humor and an amazing memory. She was a voracious reader and an avid TV fan. Word search was her game of choice and she loved working on puzzles. She could be very strong-willed, as those who knew her well will attest. She was devoted to her cats over the years and kept a picture of her last cat, Tippy, by her side. Community and family were very important to Peggy, who checked regularly on their welfare, and remembered them with holiday cards and appreciation. Peggy will be missed.
A service of memory for Peggy is scheduled for May 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the Groton United Methodist Church, 1397 Scott Highway, Groton, VT.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Groton United Methodist Church, PO Box 157, Groton VT 05046.
