Obituary

Peter John Kalnins, 51, of East Ryegate, VT, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, March 15, 2025.

Born on February 4, 1974, in Weymouth, MA, Peter lived in Needham, MA until his family relocated, first to Swiftwater and then Benton, NH where he grew up and attended schools in Bath, Haverhill, and Woodsville High School. In 1990 he moved to Groton, VT, and in 1999 he moved to Ryegate, VT.

Peter was a self-employed carpenter; over the years he worked for The Green Thumb and 3 different log home companies where he discovered his passion for building log homes. He was an avid fan of Boston sports. He never missed a Patriots game, and he could always be found yelling at the TV during football season. He would often spend time outside either working in the yard, fishing, or just enjoying time sitting on the deck or around a campfire. He always looked forward to the yearly family trips to Cape Cod with Michelle and the boys, which often involved a deep-sea fishing trip.

On July 11, 1998, Peter married Michelle Emerson in Groton, VT. Together they built a life raising their two sons.

Peter is survived by his wife, Michelle Kalnins; his mother, Susan Cannata-Rogers, and his father, Sam Gregory; two sons, Cody Kalnins of Ryegate, VT, and Anthony Kalnins and his partner Alexia Russell of Tunbridge, VT; his little "Peanut" his granddaughter, Paislee-Ann Kalnins; a brother, Nicholas Gregory of Benton, NH; his aunt and Godmother, Robin Rogers-Jensen and her husband Dickie of Swiftwater, NH; his Mother in law Paula Emerson of Groton VT, sisters in law Christen Emerson of Barnet VT and Becky Emerson of Danville Vt, "brother" Jason Nolin, Nieces and Nephews Baylie, Lakota, Meeka, Olivia, Nolan, and Hayden along with many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, friends, "The Boys" he considered his own and his beloved dog, Autumn.
