Topsham, VT – Philip Edwin Dodge, 83, of Powder Spring Road, died at his home Tuesday, July 30, 2019.
He was born at home in Topsham, December 30, 1935, the son of Charles Edwin and Ellen Amanda (White) Dodge, and attended the local elementary school in Topsham and graduated from Bradford Academy in 1954.
Philip worked at local farms in town and was then employed at the Whiting Creamery in Bradford. He began employment for McCormick and Co. as a public accountant in 1963, and retired in 2011.
Philip was married to Louise Gagne in Barre, VT on September 26, 1964.
Philip was active in community affairs and was generous with his time in helping his family and friends along life's journey. He was a Freemason and member of Minerva Lodge # 86 of East Corinth, where he served as treasurer from April 1984 until March 2019. He was a volunteer fireman for the Tri-Village Fire Department since 1974, and was assistant treasurer of the department from 2006 until 2019. He was also treasurer of the Topsham Cemetery Association since 1973.
Philip held two town offices. He was a selectman from 1975 to 1978 and was town auditor from 1965 to 1984. He was a lifelong member of the Topsham United Presbyterian Church, and served as the church treasurer from 1984 until June 2019. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling.
Philip was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be sadly missed by his family, his church family, and his many friends with whom he loved to visit.
Philip is survived by his wife of 54 years Louise of Topsham; two daughters, Susan Dodge May of Proctor, VT and Kathleen Dodge of Pittsford, VT; a son, Jason Dodge of Eureka, KS; a brother, Hassall Dodge of Topsham; seven grandchildren, Erica and Jacob May of Proctor, Caleb, Conner, Seamus and Madeline Reynolds, all of Pittsford, and Rachel Dodge of Tampa, FL. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Ronald Gagne and wife Louise, J. Peter Gagne and wife Carol, and Paul Gagne; sisters-in-law, Diane Button and husband Clayton, Fern Henson, Mary and Marilyn Gagne; along with many nieces and nephews.
Philip was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Alice Dodge, Harriet Dodge and Carolyn Gagne; his brother James Dodge; brothers-in-law Robert and Michael Gagne; a nephew, Scott Henson; and niece, Nicole Gagne.
There will be no calling hours.
A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, August 10, at 1 PM, at the Topsham United Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in the family lot in the Topsham town cemetery.
