Woodsville, NH – Phillip Earl Towne, 68, of Connecticut Street, died Sunday, June 5, 2016, following a boating accident on the Connecticut River near the Bedell State Park, Haverhill, NH.
He was born in Lisbon, NH, October 20, 1947, a son of Earl and Marion (Amsden) Towne and was a life long resident. Following high school he serviced three years in the US Army from 1964 to 1967. For 32 years Phil worked as the caretaker / custodian for Northern Community Management Corporation, and later AHEAD. He oversaw the maintenance of elderly housing buildings in Woodsville, Lisbon, Whitefield, Lancaster, and Groveton, NH, as well as, Wells River, Newbury, and Gilman, VT. Since November 2015 he had been working for Twin Pines Housing Trust in White River, VT. He also worked for 25 years as a nursing assistant at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill.
He was a member of Ross-Wood American Legion Post # 20 of Woodsville.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Rebecca (Corliss) Towne, to whom he married on February 7, 1970; also their children, Ronald E. Towne of Haverhill, NH, Barbara A. Emerson and husband Stuart of Woodsville, Allen E. Towne and wife Kathy of Huntersville, NC, Sandra L. Heath and husband James, Sr. of Lyndonville, VT, and Jennie R. Gibson and husband Randy of Brownsville, VT; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; his siblings, Barbara Dore of Concord, NH, twins Nellie Dubois of Goffstown and Carrie Hughes of Warner, Ernest Towne of FL, and Jerry Towne of West Topsham, VT; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers Dale Towne and Cliff Wheeler.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be on Friday, June 10, at 2 PM in the Horse Meadow Cemetery, North Haverhill, NH with Pastor Clint Brake of the Woodsville United Methodist Church officiating.
