Obituary

Bath, NH- Raymond Leon Martell, 80, died on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. He was born in Windsor, VT, on November 4, 1934, the eldest of 5 children of Raymond Joseph Leon Martell and Evelyn (Girard) Martell. Ray Martell grew up in Claremont, NH with the exception of two separate periods in Windsor, VT. (1939-1941 and 1943-1944). He attended schools in Windsor and Claremont graduating in Claremont from St. Mary's Grammar School in 1948 and Stevens High School in 1952. Ray was employed in 1952 by General Electric in Pittsfield, MA, on a four year toolmaker apprentice program which included three years of night school, that was a A.G.E. sponsored tuition refund program. He worked at G.E. in Pittsfield as a toolmaker, manufacturing engineer, tool line engineer and welding engineer. Raymond served two years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, as a radio repairman in Kaiseslavter, Germany in 1957. While employed by G.E. in 1969, as a sideline job he and a partner started a multi-man machine shop, which he divested of in 1975. Ray married Doris Flanders on April 26, 1975. Together, they purchased land in Bath, NH in 1979 and built a home there. In 1981 he left G.E. after 30 years of service and they moved to Bath that same year. In 1984 he was employed by New England Wire in Lisbon, NH, working in engineering for 16 years, retiring in 2001 to country life. He loved gardening and had a hobby machine shop. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to old-time engine and farm shows. He did not like to leave the sanctuary of his hill and home in Bath. He was predeceased by a sister, Susan Webster. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Doris Martell; a daughter, Kathy Meyette; two sons, George and Jeff Martell; 4 grandsons; 11 great granddaughters; three sisters, Joann Johnson, Donna Debenedictus, and Doris Dechane; a brother, Richard Martell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. At Raymond's request there will be no public services.
