Newbury, VT Raymond Frederick Nickles, Sr, 85, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH. He was born in West Haven, Connecticut, the son of Frederick Clifford and Leona Katherine (Peryer) Nickles. Raymond served with the U. S. Army from January 19, 1945 to December 5, 1946 during World War II. He married Rita Miller on July 4, 1953 and together they had four children, Laura, Raymond Jr, Mark, and James. Raymond was a logger working with his draft horses in the woods. He had also done carpentry work in the local area and prior to his retirement he had worked with his three boys. He loved draft horses and anything to do with them. Raymond in his spare time enjoyed making wishing wells, lawn furniture, and puttering to keep busy. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rita Nickles of Piermont, NH; a daughter, Laura Rodimon and husband Frank of Piermont; three sons, Raymond F. Nickles, Jr and wife Laura of West Newbury, VT, Mark Nickles and companion Shirley Ward of Piermont, and James Nickles and wife Beulah of St. Johnsbury, VT; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond C. Nickles of Woodsville, NH; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A memorial graveside service will be on Friday, September 21 at 11 AM at the Sawyer Cemetery, Bradford, VT with Pastor George Hemway from the Trinity Church of the Nazarene officiating.
