Obituary

Reginald Henry Basnar, 81, of Thompson Road, Benton, NH, died following a period of failing health, on Friday, August 18, 2017, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH.

Reginald was born in Lyndonville, VT, on July 11, 1936, to Clarence and Agnes (Hosford) Basnar.  On August 29, 1962, he married Barbara Young. He served in the National Guard.  While living in Connecticut, he worked in construction.  Upon returning to the area, he did masonry work and logging.

Reginald enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.  He was a member of the Ammonoosuc Fish and Game Club and served as the animal control officer in Benton.  He was also a member of Ross-Wood Post #20 of the American Legion in Woodsville, NH.  Reginald also enjoyed watching Westerns on TV and playing cribbage.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Barbara Basnar of Benton; three sons, Walter Basnar of Groton, VT, Douglas Basnar and wife Valerie of Lisbon, NH, and Tom Basnar of Florida; a step-daughter, Linda Coy and husband Paul of Lisbon; four grandchildren, Emily Larabee and husband Rick, Michael Basnar and fiancé` Meg, Travis Basnar, and Daniel Coy; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Hailey; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a sister-in-law Virginia Young of Barrington, NH, and brother-in-law Wendell Young and wife Nancy of Bethlehem, NH.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be on Thursday, August 24th at 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville.  Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery, Benton.
