Obituary

Bath, NH- Reginald Byron "Reggie" Smith, 84, of Bunga Road, and formerly of North Haverhill, died at his home, following a period of declining health, on Sunday, March 23, 2014.

Reggie was born on July 14, 1929, in Haverhill, NH, to William Clinton and Mildred Blanche (Perkins) Smith.

Following high school, he joined the US Army and served from December 1946 through June 1968, retiring with rank as Master Sergeant. He then worked for the New Hampshire Highway Department as a foreman of the North Haverhill State Garage, retiring in August 1984.

Reggie married Evelyn Anne Irwin on February 27, 1953 in Manchester, CT. Together, they enjoyed their travels throughout the world as a military family. They settled in Bath in 1968. Upon their retirements, Reggie and Evelyn enjoyed wintering in Florida.

Reggie was a lifetime member of Haverhill VFW Post #5245 and a member of the American Legion Post #20 in Woodsville, NH. Along with his wife, Evelyn, he assisted with the Legion's annual turkey dinner, Bingo nights, parades and other events. Reggie had served in the Army during the Korean War and in 2008, he traveled with his son, Cecil, to the Republic of South Korea to receive the Korean Peace Medal, He was a 32 nd degree Mason. He was also a member of the Ammonoosuc Fish and Game Club and a former Hunter Safety instructor. He served as a bailiff for the Grafton County Sheriff's Office.

Reggie was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn on March 30, 2010; an infant son, Gary Reginald and a baby daughter; a sister Irene Brooks; and two brothers, Lionel E. "Bud" Smith and William J. Smith.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol L. Aaron and husband David of Bradenton, FL and Regina S. Weeks of Cohoes, NY; two sons, Cecil W. Smith and wife Suzette of North Haverhill, NH and Joseph M. Smith and wife Heidi of Charlestown, NH; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Annabelle Fagnant and husband Richard of Monroe, NH and Isabelle Morin of Barberton, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be Thursday, March 27 th , from 1-2 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH, with a funeral service at 2 PM, following the calling hour, with Rev. Heidi Smith officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Center Haverhill Cemetery, Center Haverhill, NH.
