In Loving Memory of Rhonda Jean Lakin

Rhonda Jean (Carpenter) Lakin, age 66, of South Ryegate, passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 1, 2026. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a treasured friend to all who knew her. She lived with a vibrant blend of warmth, wit, and a no-nonsense spirit that could light up a room and, at times, keep us all on our toes.

Born November 8, 1959, to Ralph Carpenter and Phyllis Williams, Rhonda was one of five siblings: Shawn Carpenter, Kim Longmorre, Shelley Williams, and Maureen Mosher.

Rhonda shared her life with her soulmate, her late husband, Fred. Together they raised two treasured children: Brandy Roy (spouse Moses Roy) and Paul Lakin (spouse Rebecca Lakin). Her greatest joy came from her nine grandchildren—Shelby Pennypacker (spouse Robert D. Pennypacker), Morgen Roy (his Dog Quinn), Jonathan Roy (spouse Jade Roy), Brendan Roy, Gavin Lakin, Dustin Lakin, Westin Lakin, Austin Lakin, and Isabella Roy—and she delighted to welcome four great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Pennypacker, Beckett Roy, Emersyn Pennypacker, and Robert M.F. Pennypacker. She also left behind her late husband's siblings, Patricia Page, Paula Emerson, James Lakin, Charles Lakin, and their families, whom Rhonda wholeheartedly loved, as family was everything to her.

To her family and wide circle of friends, Rhonda offered not only love but guidance, resilience, and a powerful example of grace under pressure. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and shared stories.

Rhonda lived with a rare combination of fierce honesty and boundless compassion. She taught us to speak truth with kindness, to stand up for what is right, and to show up for one another without hesitation. Her "sass and no-nonsense" spirit tempered with a heart that cared deeply reminded us that strength and tenderness are not mutually exclusive. Her life was a testament to the power of love lived out loud.

Rhonda wished for no calling hours. Graveside services will be held privately for the family in the spring.

Rest in peace, Rhonda Jean Lakin. Your bold heart, quick wit, and caring soul will continue to inspire us.
