Obituary

Richard Lloyd Smith, 75, Woodward Rd, North Haverhill, died after a period of failing health on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville.  He was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 11, 1946 to William and Eleanor (Owen) Smith.  He attended William A. Grady VoTech.

Richard worked as a custodian James Morrill and Haverhill Middle schools and then as a furniture builder at Copelands Furniture.

He enjoyed working with wood; was an amazing artist and a jack of all trades.  He enjoyed listening to the Righteous Brothers, Tommy James and the Shondells, as well as The Doors and Bing Crosby during Christmas. He helped build the facilities in Lake Placid for the 1980 winter Olympics. He really enjoyed spending time his grandchildren Mya and Ryley Boutin and got excited when Morgan and Tori Monagle could visit for family gatherings. He especially enjoyed watching them open presents and was known to spoil them whenever he would see them. When not with family, he enjoyed sitting and watching movies and playing with his pup Emma.  Richard also enjoyed throwing horseshoes on the weekends and was known dropping in for a visit with Willie and Joanne Applebee and "stirring the pot" to get a rise out of anyone but especially Willie. His favorite holidays were 4 th of July and Christmas when he could have a few beers and laugh with his family and friends. He was known for his quick wit (especially under his breath) and a quick exit.

Richard is predeceased by his parents and a brother Douglas Smith.  He is survived by his children William Monagle of Saco ME, Rachel Monagle, Orford NH, Eleanor Boutin, Benton NH, and Richard Smith, Portland OR, a brother William Smith, close friends, Willie Applebee, Tommy Harris, and Pete Tuttle, grandchildren Morgan Monagle, Tori Monagle, Mya Boutin and Riley Boutin, nieces and nephews, Rosemary Mangipani, William Smith, Joanne Applebee, Kenneth Smith, Richard S.
