Fairlee, VT- Richard Owen Norman, 77, of Brennan Road, passed away peacefully at his home on November 29, 2017, after a brief struggle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Richard was born in Attleboro, MA, on March 5, 1940, the second son of Chesley Albert and Marjorie Lillian (Owen) Norman. His family lived in Brentwood, NH, until 1950, when they moved to North Haverhill, NH. He was a graduate of Haverhill Academy, Class of 1958.
On February 5, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Muriel Tyler. Initially, they resided in Dover, NH, prior to living in Norwich, VT, for thirty-one years.
Richard continued his education by attending Dartmouth College for a year prior to transferring to the University of New Hampshire, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1962.
Richard worked as a high school math teacher for thirty-six years, first at Oyster River High School in Durham, NH (1962-1967), and then at Hanover High School from 1967-1998. During that time, he earned a Master's Degree from Bowdoin College (1966). He also ran the White River Drive-In movie theater for many years. Richard was a baseball coach while at Hanover High and in later years, he helped coach his grandsons' baseball teams at Rivendell Academy.
He was an avid golfer and member of the Bradford (VT) Country Club. He loved all sports, especially baseball, hockey, short-track and NASCAR racing.
It didn't matter what they were participating in, Nanny and Grampy traveled long distances to attend any and all of their grandchildrens' activities (sports, theater, musical events).
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Chesley and Marjorie Norman, and his brother, Jack Clifford Norman.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Muriel Norman of Fairlee; two daughters, Lori Campbell and husband Tom of Portland, ME and Terri Farnham and husband Larry of Fairlee; a son, Gregory Norman and wife Margy of Mequon, WI; nine grandchildren, Katie Campbell Levasseur and husband Jason, Bethany and Megan Campbell, Tyler, Shawn, and Ryan Farnham, and Ellie, Mimi, and Annie Norman; a brother, David Norman and wife Sue of New Port Richey, FL; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A time of remembrance will be held at the family home at 155 Brennan Road, Fairlee, from 1-3 PM on Saturday, December 9. A private burial will be in the Fairlee Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family.
