Vera Beach, FL Robert Oliver Ames, 78, died on March 5, 2010 in Vero Beach, FL, where he resided for 35 years. He was born in Concord, NH, May 2, 1931, the son of Roland C. and Florence (Oliver) Ames. He was a graduate of Haverhill Academy and Northeastern University. After graduation, he joined the U. S. Air Force and served in the Korean War until 1954. Bob returned to Woodsville, NH and took over his father s business, Roland C. Ames, Inc. and started a Volvo franchise. Upon leaving New England, he was employed as an automobile sales consultant for Catalano Motors in Cocoa, FL. He became a very close friend with his employer, Dave Catalano and furthered his passion of flying by receiving his license to pilot Dave s jet, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Bob continued his career as a sales consultant until his retirement. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and golf. He leaves many wonderful friends in Vero Beach and other states. He was a proud member of the Mason s, Grafton-Kane Lodge No. 46 of North Haverhill, NH, and was active in the Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach. He was predeceased by his father, Roland C. Ames; mother, Florence (Oliver) Ames; a sister, Phyllis Ames; and two brothers, Erland and Richard Ames. He is survived by a brother, William Ames of Massachusetts; a sister, Linda Wagner and her husband Howard and their son Chad of Sarasota, FL; and many nieces and nephews. A committal service will be held at Horsemeadow Annex Cemetery, North Haverhill, NH, with date and time to be published later. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bob s memory may be made to an organization of your choice.
