Obituary

Warren, NH Robert Allison Bancroft, 86, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the New Hampshire Veteran s Home in Tilton, NH. He was born in Warren, NH, October 3, 1924, the son of Fred Lewis and Ida May (Fitzgerald) Bancroft. Robert served with U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. During World War II, he was a flight engineer on PBM s and was aboard the USS Missouri during the formal surrender of Japan. He married Marjorie P. Moore on October 30, 1946. Robert later enlisted with the U. S. Air Force and served from 1948 to 1967, thus serving his country for over 22 years. He was very proud of his military service time. After retirement from the military he worked for the N. H. Department of Transportation on the highway crew, based out of Warren, NH. Robert also worked for Burndy Corporation in Lincoln, NH and Burning Bush in Warren. Robert was a member of the former VFW Post of Warren and was also a member of the American Legion Post # 0076 in Rumney, NH. He belonged to the Warren Historical Society and Knights of Pythias in Warren. In the early 1970 s, he served as a Selectman for the Town of Warren. As a young boy, he began collecting stamps and enjoyed this lifelong hobby. He loved working with mechanical and electrical devices and was an avid reader of history, aviation, and non-fiction books. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie P. (Moore) Bancroft on May 13, 1987; a sister, Thelma Bardsley; three brothers, Chester Bancroft, Lewis F. Bancroft, and Kenneth A. Bancroft. Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Conrad and husband Peter of Haverhill, NH; a son, Steve Bancroft of Warren, NH; a former daughter in law, Anita Kauffman of Benton, Arkansas; two grandsons, Christopher A. Bancroft and companion Tiffany Jordan and Andrew S. Bancroft; twin great granddaughters, Alexia J. and Olivia G. Bancroft; one great grandson, Noah A. Bancroft; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Sunday, February 6, 2011 from 2-4 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family in the Warren Village Cemetery.
