Obituary

Woodsville, NH- Robert Leo Belyea, 88, of Ammonoosuc Street, died on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. Robert was born in Warren, NH on September 25, 1926, to Llewellyn and Blanche (LaVoie) Belyea. He was a graduate of Haverhill Academy, Class of 1944. On July 1, 1950 he married Thelma Edwards. Bob enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1945 and served until 1946 when he was honorably discharged at the end of World War II. He was a member of the Ross-Wood American Legion Post # 20 in Woodsville and the Haverhill VFW Post # 5245 in North Haverhill, NH. Bob worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad for over 30 years, retiring in 1982. He also worked part time for New England Telephone for over 30 years. After retirement, he spent many years delivering meals on wheels and made many trips throughout the North Country taking people to medical appointments. He was a volunteer fireman for Woodsville Fire Department for several years. Bob also was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Bob was a longtime member of the Woodsville United Methodist Church and Men s Club. He was presented with a golden shovel from the church for his countless hours cleaning, shoveling, mowing, working on church suppers, and the Fourth of July barbeque. For many years he did papering and painting for friends in the neighborhood. He was a dedicated family man who never missed his children s, and then his grandchildren s, sporting events and awards banquets. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Babe Belyea. Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Thelma (Edwards) Belyea of Woodsville; five children, Michael Doc Belyea and wife Jean of Monroe, NH, Kathy Hatch of Woodsville, Peter Belyea and wife Wanda of McIndoe Falls, VT, James Belyea and wife Theresa of Bath, NH, and David Belyea and wife Juanita also of Bath; 17 grandchildren, Jennifer, Chad, Adam, Kim, Ryan, Kyle, Faith, Gina, Jaclyn, Jessica, Cayman, Sheena, Jordan, Danielle, Miranda, Brianna, and Erica; 4 great grandchildren, Nicholas, Landon, Ava, Ana; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 22th from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 23th at 1 PM in the WOODSVILLE UNTIED METHODIST CHURCH, 9 MAPLE STREET, WOODSVILLE, with Pastor Earl Brock officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Woodsville in the spring.
