Obituary

Bath, NH – Robert S. Callender, Jr., 93, died February 22, 2014, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill following a period of declining health. He was born in Littleton, NH, December 18, 1920, a son of Robert S. and Ada (Wells) Callender, Sr., and was a graduate of Bethlehem High School. For many years Bob was a self employed dairy farmer in Bath, where he is a former member and chairman of the Bath selectboard. He also attended the Bath Congregational Church, and is a former member of the Odd Fellows, Pine Grove Grange, and Farm Bureau. Bob served in the US Army during World War II, from October 9, 1942 to April 16, 1946 with the 208th Quartermaster and was discharged as a Corporal. He was predeceased by his two wives Alice A. (West) Callender on December 9, 1979, and Celia M. (Montgomery) Callender in August 1998. Survivors include a sister and brother Elizabeth Callender and Wilbur Callender both of Lisbon, NH, along with several nieces and nephews, along with a step daughter Leslie Ann Dunfee, and a step son Gary Rutherford. In keeping with Bob's wishes there are no public services being planned. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cottage Hospital Oncology Department, PO Box 2001, Woodsville, NH 03785.
