Obituary

Groton, VT Robert Roosevelt Bob Eastman, 79, died on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Groton, VT, December 8, 1932. Bob was the second youngest of twelve children born to Roger and Sarah Crocker (Lawton) Eastman. Bob graduated from the Groton High School with the class of 1950. Bob served with U. S. Army during the Korean War from March 11, 1953 until he was honorably discharged on February 28, 1961. He married Ann Davis on August 3, 1963. During his working career he worked for Davidson Granite in South Ryegate, VT, Thurber Granite in Barre, VT, and retired with over 27 years from Rouleau Granite, Barre. After his retirement, to keep himself busy, he worked for Bond Auto in Woodsville and for his son, Gene, at Green Mountain Monogram in Wells River. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and baseball, especially watching the Boston Red Sox. For many years he played baseball for the Newbury town team and also for the Ryegate senior softball league. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Groton VFW, and the American Legion Post # 14 in Vergennes, VT. Coming from a large family growing up, family was always an important and special part of his life. He was predeceased by three sisters, Carrie Esther Murray, Dorothy Magoon, and Agnes Eastman; seven brothers, Harold Tom Eastman, Howard Eastman, Earl Bart Eastman, Bernice Larry Eastman, Vernold Cut Eastman, Kenneth Eastman, and Carroll Cliff Eastman. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ann Eastman of Groton; a daughter, Wendy G. Spooner and husband David of North Haverhill, NH; two sons, Gene R. Eastman and wife Julie of Wells River, VT and Glen A. Eastman and wife Michelle of Vergennes, VT; eight grandchildren, Kaylee Robbins Heathe and husband Nathan, Reegan Robbins Hubbard and husband Brian, Jamie Eastman, Dylan Eastman, Kirsten Spooner, Shelby Spooner, Jacob Trench, and Matthew Trench; two great grandchildren, Colby Heathe and Tyler Hubbard; a sister, Catherine Cochran of Morrisville, VT; two sisters-in-law, Jodi Eastman of Wells River and Molly Eastman of St. Johnsbury, VT; former son-in-law, Stephen Robbins; former daughter-in-law, Lisa Eastman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, November 20, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM, at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A celebration of Bob s life will begin at 3:30 PM.
