Ludlow, VT- Robert Washburn Jennings, 91, formerly of Old County Road in Groton, VT, died unexpectedly at Springfield Hospital, Springfield, VT on Thursday, July 24, 2014. Bob was born on March 22, 1923, in Boston, MA, a son of Laurence Williston and Louise (Rodman) Jennings. He attended both Norwich and Boston Universities. Bob was a Second Lieutenant and Navigator in the US Army Air Corps and flew eight missions over Europe during World War II. Following his discharge, he worked for WGAN Broadcasting in Portland, ME and then for the Portland Press Herald from 1949 through 1969. On October 24, 1970, he married Virginia Main. Together, they moved to Groton in 1983. Bob was a member of the Groton United Methodist Church where he played the piano and organ for many years. He was a member of the North Country Chorus and played piano for the local band, Sweet Jamm. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing contract bridge and golf. He was predeceased by two brothers, W. Rodman Rod Jennings and Howard L. Jennings. He is survived by his wife of nearly 44 years, Virginia Jennings of Ludlow; a daughter, Beverly Kosak of Lakeville, CT; four step children, Bethia Bosco and husband John of Coventry, CT, Emily Manchester of Charlestown, NH, Dana Manchester and wife Maria of Charlotte, NC, and Carson Manchester, Jr. and wife Marion of Vero Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Frederick Kosak, Louis Kosak, and Alice Kosak Boucher; eight step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at 2 PM in the Groton, VT United Methodist Church with Pastor Candace Ricker officiating. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.
