Obituary

Robert James Mawson, 89, Bath, NH, died at home with family at his side on Monday, October 28, 2024.  He was born September 18, 1935, in Lawrence, MA, the son of Gordon and Catherine (Nauiokas) Mawson.  He was educated in Salem, NH, and graduated from Woodbury High School in 1953.  Following high school, he attended Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, NH for one year where he played three sports, did janitor work for the headmaster, and on his 18th birthday he met his future wife, Elinor.

He received his bachelor's degree in education from Plymouth State University, where he played varsity baseball. In 1968, he earned his master's degree from Northeastern University.

His teaching career began at Warren Village School for two years where he taught 7th and 8th grades and was a principal and part-time janitor. He spent the next year at Searles School in Windham and then went to North Hampton Elementary School where he spent the next 33 years. During that time, he coached several sports, and umpired games for nearby schools.

He was a member of the Army Reserves, the Historical Society of Seabrook, and the Salem High School sports hall of fame.

He and his wife were world travelers for 20 years, going to places like Russia, China, Canada, and Alaska as well as many US States. He enjoyed bird carving, fly-tying, fishing (when conditions were optimum), and watching sports on TV. He also did expert and challenging crossword puzzles. When he was 63, he completely renovated his house in Seabrook, and when he was 69, he and his sons built their log home in Bath NH.

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Elinor (Perfect) Mawson of Bath; two sons, Mark Mawson and Robert "Bg" Mawson and wife Jackie of Seabrook; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Robert is predeceased by his parents, and brother, Joseph Mawson.
