Obituary

Newbury, VT Rodney Warren Rod Colbeth, 64 of Scotch Hollow Road, died on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Hanover, NH, on March 4, 1947, the son of Fred and Bessie (Stone) Colbeth. Rod graduated from Newbury High School, Class of 1965. Rod served with the U.S. Marine Corps from June 30, 1965 to June 28, 1968. He married Maureen Smith on May 10, 1975. For many years he drove cement trucks for Lawrence Sangravco in Woodsville, NH. In 1986 he went to work for Cottage Hospital, in the maintenance department, until his retirement in November 2007. He was a life member of the NRA and was a former member of the Newbury Fire Department having served as an Assistant Chief for many years. Rod enjoyed hunting, fishing, maple sugaring, motorcycling, and socializing with everyone. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred Colbeth on September 30, 1998 and Bessie (Stone) Colbeth on April 30, 2008; a sister, Joyce Rae Colbeth on August 24, 1993; a brother, Fred Jim Colbeth on December 2, 2001; and a brother-in-law, Bob Wilds on August 11, 2002. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Maureen (Smith) Colbeth of Newbury; two children, Jason Colbeth and his wife Ashley and their children Allie and Jack and Amanda Kleintop and husband Doug and their daughter Avery all of Newbury; a sister, Linda Wilds of Newbury; a brother, Thomas Colbeth and his wife Arie of Newbury; a special niece, Braley Dorr; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Friday, March 25, from 6 to 8 PM, at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A private spring burial will be in the Townhouse Cemetery in Newbury, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cottage Hospital, P.O. Box 2001, Woodsville, NH 03785.
