Obituary

Ryegate, VT Roger Edgar Bogardus, 94, of Spruce Drive died May 31, 2010 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born in Hartford, CT, June 2, 1915, a son of Edgar H. and Edyth (Erickson) Bogardus. During World War II he served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 438th AAA Battalion in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was discharged in November 1945 and returned to Connecticut. He then began a long career as an automobile technician with Wagner Ford in Simsbury, CT. He moved to Ryegate in 1977 and has enjoyed his retirement living in Vermont. He is a member of Earl Brock Post # 78 American Legion Post of Newbury, VT. He was predeceased by his first wife, Stella Jane (Bennett) Bogardus on May 5, 1996. He was also predeceased by a grandson, David A. Bogardus and a sister, Estelle Case. Survivors include his second wife, Helen (Simonson) Bogardus, to whom he was married on July 12, 1997; a daughter, Marion Ivey of Simsbury, CT; two sons, David Bogardus of Tariffville, CT and Steven Wood of Ryegate; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Case of Simsbury, CT; a brother, Warren Bogardus of California; along with one niece and five nephews. A calling hour will be on Saturday, June 5, from 2 PM until the time of the funeral service at 3 PM, all at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. Burial will follow the service in Blue Mt Cemetery, Ryegate, VT.
