Obituary

Roger Raymond Hatch, 73, of Groton, VT passed peacefully on January 1, 2022, surrounded by family.  He was born in Barre, VT on February 20, 1948, to a large family.  The son of Gerald "Fred" and Madlyn (Ashford) Hatch.

Roger grew up in Groton, VT where he lived most of his life.  He performed many jobs throughout his years but was primarily a heavy equipment operator for construction companies. If you ever talked to Roger for more than a few minutes you most likely experienced his prolific story telling ability.  He could, and did, tell stories for hours if someone was around to enjoy the yarns he spun.  He was a proud lifetime member of the NRA and shared his love of firearms with his grandsons who shot and sighted in their first rifles with grandpa.  Roger helped many fellow hunters and family, from all around, sight in their guns.  The family joked that Roger single handedly reduced the deer population in the Groton area in his younger years.  Roger was an amateur inventor and loved to explain his inventions ranging from an improved ice fishing tip-up to a table built to collect spent gun rounds while sighting in his many guns.  After all who wants to pick up all those shell casings?!  He passed his love of hunting, fishing and NASCAR racing on to his family. Roger and his son Darryl both successfully competed at local racetracks.  Roger was also very creative and taught himself how to play guitar and piano.

Roger is predeceased by his ever-faithful wife of 46 years, Patricia Ann (Poor), his parents, his brothers Gordon, Douglas and Harvey, sister Sylvia and brother-in-law Merle Williams, brother-in-law James Bourgeios, brother-in-law John Poor and wife Harriet and sister-in-law Marie Poor, nephews Randy Williams and Maurice Poor.

Roger leaves behind son Darryl and wife Karmen of Stowe, VT and their children Kane, Konnor, Keith and wife Chelsie and great grandchildren Dillon, Lucas, Bailey, Ryan and Emma, Julie Fuller and fiancée Mitchell Dresser and great grandchildren Madison, Addy and Garrett, Chastity Jean and great grandchildren Lillian and Violet; daughter RoseLee Bean and son-in-law Andrew of Essex, VT and their children Kelsey and fiancée Matt Ravey, Brendan, Victoria and fiancée Ethan Bartlett; daughter and caregiver Julie Rood and son-in-law Rodney Jr of Groton, VT and their children Ashley Kennedy and husband Josh and great grandchildren Cobin and Camden, close companion and grandson Jordan Rood and his fiancée Madison Smith.  Roger is survived by his siblings Herbert, Linda Bourgeios and Leo and his sister-in-laws Rose and Rudene Hatch.  Roger also leaves behind a long list of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss his big hellos.

Roger's life will be celebrated with a graveside service on May 6, 2022 at 1PM at the Groton Village Cemetery, Groton, VT.
