Ronald James Howard, 83, of Landaff, NH, passed away March 24, 2026. Ron was born in Waterford, VT, on June 6, 1942, to Chet and Rita (Stuart) Howard. He married Maybelle (Butson) Howard August 31, 1968. They welcomed a daughter Robin Howard on October 28, 1971.
Ron was a carpenter and he remodeled and built many houses in the area with his good friends Robert Fenoff and Richard Knapp. He served in the VT National Guard from 1961 to 1965 where he received training as a carpenter.
Ron is survived by his wife, Maybelle Howard, brother Terry Howard and wife Rachel Howard of FL, sister Teala Hooker of St. Johnsbury, VT; brother James Howard of Decatur, GA; stepsister Dawn Danforth of Holiday, FL; three sisters in-law, Elaine Clough, Susan Webster and Nancy Butson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Robin Howard, his parents Rita (Stuart) Howard and Chester James Howard, brother Chester Jay Howard; a sister Wanda Langmaid; relatives in-law, Lynn Howard, Leslie Hooker, Richard Butson, Raymond Clough, Anita and Lloyd Cate, and Marvin Webster; his parents in-law, Myrtle and Harold Butson.
Ron played mandolin and guitar and spent many good times playing with many of the local bands. He began playing with his dad Chet Howard and the Rodeo Wranglers, and played with Denny and the Buckos, The Parker Hill Road Band and many others ending with The Boyz. He played on Friday nights with the Back Shed String Band in Monroe, and Sundays at the Community Building in Woodsville. He valued the relationships he had with the musicians, who are too numerous to mention, in the area and loved to make music.
There will be a memorial service on Friday April 3, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Lisbon Landaff Shared Ministry, 49 South Main St., Lisbon, NH. Interment will be on Thursday May 14, at 10 AM at the Landaff Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Chance Animal Rescue, 1517 Meadow St., Littleton, NH 03561.
