Obituary

Hanover, NH – Roswell Pierce Greenlay, 93, of Lyme Road passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. He was welcomed to the world by his parents, Benjamin Greenlay and Hilda (Hendrickson) Greenlay, on April 17, 1929, in Malden, MA.

His mother passed away when he was only seven, and it was after that when he moved up to Woodsville and lived with Della Stern Graham, and is an alumnus of Woodsville High School, class of 1948. Roswell was very involved in sports while he was in high school. He played basketball with John Bagonzi, and baseball with Norm Mullen.

Roswell was a steadfast type of person and worked as a meat cutter his whole life. He started at Peoples Market, then Super Duper and finally P&C. He also served his state and country by joining up with the NH National Guard. Later in life he liked to relax with a game of golf, and he played as long as his body allowed him to.

He was also a dedicated religious man; he attended the Methodist Church in Bradford. He was a member of the choir, and he absolutely loved to sing.

Roswell is predeceased by his parents; his son Thomas Greenlay; his daughter-in-law Carolyn Greenlay; a granddaughter, Nicole Paine; a great-granddaughter, Makala Pierson; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Paine.

He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Thurston and her husband Chip; his grandson Shaine Chaffee and wife Donna; a great grandson, Shaine Robert; a great-granddaughter Rilee; a granddaughter, Jolene Cadwell and husband Brent; great grandchildren, Addison and Wyatt Cadwell; granddaughter Stacy Barton and husband Brock; great-grandsons, Benjamin and Clark Barton; his daughter Dara Lynn Towle and her husband Paul; granddaughter, Jamie Pierson and husband Matt; great-grandson, Kobe Pierson; grandson, Paul Towle; great-grandsons Mason and Griffin Towle; and granddaughter, Tara Greenlay.

A memorial service will be held at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 11AM, with Rev. Lyn Winter as celebrant.
