Obituary

-  Rowena F. Nelson, 103, formerly of Woodward Road, died on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill.

Rowena was born in North Haverhill on October 4, 1917 to Philip and Susan (Hunt) King. She attended a one room school house with a total of eight students with no running water.

On January 6, 1934, she married Errold Nelson.

Rowena worked side by side with her husband, whether it was in the woods with horses or tending their large vegetable gardens.  She loved flowers, and maintained her own beautiful flowers, loved horses, and preferred she not be visited on BINGO day.

She is survived by three sons, Richard L. Nelson of Littleton, NH, Neal A. Nelson of Lyman, NH, and James E. Nelson and wife Linda also of Littleton; ten grandchildren, Brian (Kathi) Nelson of Littleton, Errold (Tina) Nelson of Spofford, Todd Nelson of Littleton, Tracey Nelson of Connecticut, Joe (Jacki) Nelson of Monroe, James Nelson of Vermont, David (Shemariah)  Nelson of North Carolina, Tom (Kathy) Gowitzke of Bethlehem, William (Younga) Gowitzke of Florida, John (Esther) Gowitzke of Connecticut; fifteen great grandchildren; a favorite and dedicated niece, Marlene Johnson and son Alan Salmon of Oklahoma City, OK; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Errold Nelson on December 10, 1999; her daughter, Ruth Gowitzke on July 22, 2013; her son-in-law, Robert Gowitzke; and two brothers, Adylor Wayne King on December 15, 1990 and Fred H. King on November 12, 2016.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be in the old section of the Horsemeadow Cemetery, Horse Meadow Road, North Haverhill, on Friday, November 27 at 11 AM.

Rowena's family would like to say "Thank You" to the local fire and police departments for the nights and days they responded to Rowena when the lights went out.  Also, a  special thanks goes   to the Horse Meadow Senior Center for making sure she got to BINGO on Wednesdays!
