Obituary

Swiftwater, NH- Roy Ferguson Reed, 88, of Cemetery Road, died on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH. Roy was born in Medford, MA, on October 15, 1924, to Royal Augustus and Mary (Noble) Reed. Following his graduation from high school in Somerville, MA, Roy attended the Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA. During World War II, he served in the US Navy from 1942-1946. He married Muriel Hackett on January 27, 1950. Following his Honorable Discharge, he worked for the Boston Globe as a pressman for 43 years. Roy was an avid boater, operated a dive shop in Somerville, and taught his children to dive. He enjoyed building, woodworking, and creating stained glass projects that he would present as gifts. Upon his retirement in 1987, he and Muriel moved from Medford to Swiftwater. They attended many square dances together. Roy was a member of the American Legion Ross-Wood Post #20 in Woodsville, NH and he was a former member of the Masonic order. He was predeceased by his grandson, Ian Reed on September 3, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Muriel Reed of Swiftwater; three children, Lynne Reed of St. Augustine, FL, Royal Chip Reed and fianc ` Beth of Rumney, NH, and Robert Reed and wife Debbie of Edgewater, FL; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a sister Jean McGillen of Alexandria, VA; and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 11 AM 1 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH with a graveside service to follow at 1:30 PM at the Swiftwater Cemetery, Bath, NH.
