Russell L. Keniston, 76, of North Haverhill, New Hampshire passed away on June 1,
2023 at his daughter's home in Monroe, New Hampshire surrounded by his family after a short
battle with cancer.
Russell was born on May 31, 1947, in Woodsville, New Hampshire to Nathan and
Mildred (Greenley) Keniston. Russell grew up in North Haverhill alongside his siblings and
nieces on Swampy Lane Farm on Briar Hill. After graduating from high school, he worked
driving a milk truck for his brother-in-law, Pete Thayer. Afterwards, he worked as a carpenter for
Harlan Hutchins, and then as farmhand for Herb Reed. Russell took over Swampy Lane Farm in
1976 after the passing of his brother-in-law. In 2001, Russell retired his cattle at Swampy Lane
Farm and began a job as a herdsman at Grafton County Farm. He worked as a herdsman there until he retired in 2011. His true love was his land and farming, and during his retirement years he enjoyed growing vegetables, maple sugaring, harvesting hay, and having cookouts with his
family at his farm. Russell also loved going to Gray's Auction in Fairlee, Vermont.
Russell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gayle (Brooks) Keniston of Monroe, New
Hampshire; daughter Becky (Keniston) Murdough and her husband Brian of Henniker, New
Hampshire; daughter Karen (Keniston) Woods and her husband Edward of Monroe, New
Hampshire; grandson Justin Woods of Laconia, New Hampshire; granddaughter Shawna
Murdough of Henniker, New Hampshire; as well as his nieces Audrey Clough and husband
Samuel of North Haverhill, New Hampshire; Irene Fournier and husband Ronald of North
Haverhill, New Hampshire; Katie Thayer and husband Scott of Wells River, Vermont; Jody
Engle and husband Pudge of Wells River, Vermont; and many beloved grandnieces and grand
nephews, extended family, and friends.
Russell was predeceased by his son Wayne Keniston; grandson Orry Murdough; sister.
Evelyn Thayer; brother Harlan Keniston; niece Chrystal Lewis; and his beloved dog Kayleigh.
Donations can be made in memory of Russell to the North Haverhill Fair Association Attention: Maple Museum PO Box 207 North Haverhill NH 03774. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
