Ruth Mary (Kristoff) Basile, 80, Newbury, VT, died at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH on Friday August 9, 2024.  She was born in Cleveland, OH to Andrew and Lillian (Szabo) Kristoff on May 24, 1944.  The family moved to Meadville, PA when she was very young, where she graduated from Meadville Area High School with the class of 1962.  Ruth then went on to earn an associate degree from Robert Morris College in Pittsburg, PA.
Ruth married Sebastian "Sam" Basile on July 11, 1993, in Cambridge Springs, PA.  She worked as medical transcriptionist for the Meadville Medical Center for 32 years, retiring in 2006.  In retirement she moved to South Ryegate, VT to be nearer her daughter, and more recently made her home in Newbury, VT.
Ruth never met a dog or cat she didn't love.  She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and great sense of humor.  Ruth enjoyed playing cards and doing puzzles, and above all else spending time with her family and friends.
She is predeceased by the father of her daughter, Samuel E. Bowman, her second husband, Sam Basile, her parents, and a sister Lillian E. Savacheck.  She is survived by her daughter, Lorin (Bowman) Hosmer and her husband Bill, of South Ryegate, VT, a grandson, Paxton Hosmer of South Ryegate, VT, as well a niece and several cousins.
Services will be held in Meadville, PA.
