Obituary

West Barnet, VT Ruth (Kibbe) Steele, 85, passed to her heavenly home on September 18, 2012, after many years of coping with Alzheimer s Disease. She was born in Springfield, MA on June 26, 1927, a daughter of Stanley J. and Bernice (Warner) Kibbe. She graduated from Springfield Technical High School, Class of 1945 and on April 10, 1948 she married Richard L. Steele. Together they lived for 13 years in Longmeadow, MA, before moving to Cummington, MA, in the Berkshires, where for the better part of 27 years she drove school bus. Ruth also served as the town s first policewoman. Retirement brought her and her husband, Dick, to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont where they lived in Wheelock in the 1980 s before finally settling in West Barnet. For quite some time she had the privilege of serving as hostess at the Old Cutter Inn on Burke Mountain, and had been active at the West Barnet Church serving as a Deacon for six years. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Dick Steele, of West Barnet; a daughter, Roxanne C. Milne of Kill Devil Hills, NC; two grandsons, Daniel and Sean also of North Carolina; and a brother, Norman Kibbe of Lyndonville, VT. She was predeceased by two sons, Randall H. Steele in 2006 and Robert N. Steele in 2010. There will be no calling hours or funeral services scheduled at this time. Burial services at a later date will be held in Dawes Cemetery, Cummington, MA. The Steele family wishes to thank both the Caledonia Home Health and Hospice, as well as, Danville Heath Center for the continual care and support they provided for the many months and weeks. A special thanks is also extended to the Hospice Choral group for the special music they offered to Ruth.
