Groton, VT- Sadie Mae Burgin Bruleigh, 95, of Clarks Landing, has peacefully gone home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She died at her home on Monday, April 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.
Sadie was born at home in East Haverhill, NH, on June 13, 1918, to Louis Joseph and Josie (Bemis) Derosia. Her early years were spent in Woodsville, NH, Barre, VT and Groton.
In 1937 she married Ray Burgin from Groton and they were married for 33 years until Ray's death in 1970. They lived in Austin, TX for 15 years where Sadie was employed at the University of Texas Arts and Science in the Dean's office.
In 1975 she married Robert H. Bruleigh, Sr. of Topsham, VT and they were together for 24 years until his death in 1999.
After moving back to Vermont, she worked in the insurance field and retired from Berg, Carmolli, and Kent Insurance in Barre, retiring in 1982.
Sadie was a very active person and had many interests. She served as the Treasurer for the Town of Groton. She was a life member of the IONA Chapter of the OES in Bradford, VT. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Groton Historical Society, was past president of the Willing Workers in St. Johnsbury, and was a long-time member of the Groton United Methodist Church, where she had served as president of the United Methodist Women's group. She was in charge of prayer chains for the church and was an inspiration to the Prayer and Praise group at Clark's Landing.
Sadie enjoyed music and played the piano and organ for many organizations. One of her great joys was cheering for her beloved Red Sox.
In her earlier years, she was an exceptional homemaker, always preparing great meals with love from her heart for her family.
Along with her husbands, Ray Burgin and Robert H. Bruleigh, she was also predeceased by a baby daughter, Sylvia; two brothers, Louis and Volney Derosia; and three sisters, Lydia Belyea, Evelyn Sweeney, and Ruth Giverson.
She is survived by two children, Peggy Ann Burgin of Groton and Parker Dexter Burgin and wife Dinah of Wimberley, TX; two step-sons, Robert H. "Tiger" Bruleigh, Jr. of Concord, NH and Charles "Chub" Bruleigh of Groton; six grandchildren, including Lisa, Todd, Tenika and Taylor; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a sister Barbara Libby of Chicopee, MA; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be on Sunday, May 4, at 2 PM at the Groton United Methodist Church, Scott Highway, Groton, VT, with Pastor Candace Ricker, officiating. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family.
