Portsmouth, NH Sandy A. Lange, 67, formerly of Bradford, VT, died on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at her residence. She was born in Huntington, New York, July 19, 1943, the daughter of Arthur and Katherine (Korell) Sauer. As a child, she loved working with her grandfather on his potato farm. Sandy graduated from Villanova University in 1965 with a degree in nursing. She moved to California and joined the U. S. Navy as a Lieutenant. She was stationed in Oakland, CA during the Vietnam War, where she met and married James Lange. She later moved to New Mexico where she worked as a Nurse Practitioner for the Navajo Health Service. Sandy and James had two children, Rana and Jake. They moved to Vermont where she taught at Oxbow Vocational Center for the health occupation program and 8th grade history. Sandy also worked as a charge nurse at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH for many years. After retirement she moved to Portsmouth, NH to be near the Seacoast that she loved so much, and to pursue her passion for photography. Sandy was a member of the New Hampshire Art Association, where she was well known for her photographs. She also enjoyed volunteering on Appledore Island at the Isles of Shoals in Portsmouth. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, cooking, and all the little things in life. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Katherine Sauer and her husband, James S. Lange. Survivors include her daughter, Rana Lange of Bradford, VT; her son, Jake Lange of Portsmouth, NH; and her sisters, Catherine Sauer of South Carolina and Susie Leckie of California. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
